The Rev. Patrick J. Tierney officiated. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Thomas E. Waters, the Rev. E. A. Brosnan and the Rev. Paul V. Heller were present in the sanctuary. There was a large attendance and a profusion of floral offerings. The casket was covered with clusters of Easter lilies, roses and fern. Large delegations were present from the various organizations of which Mr. Doherty was a member, including many prominent in political and civic affairs. During the service, Mrs. Stark A. Sutton sang “Abide With Me," with Prof. J. Harvey Stevens, organist. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The pallbearers were J. Hume Taylor, Frank A. Evans, Wiley W. Wood, O. C. Moore, Samuel Subers, Sidney Goldstein, Colgate W. Darden, Jr., Richard Moss, Ballard R. Keefe and C. O. Eell. In his address at the conclusion of the mass, Father Tierny paid a high tribute to the Christian life and character of Mr. Doherty. Services at the grave were conducted by the Rev. Patrick J. Tierney and the Rev. P. P. Brennan.
