A former clerical employee of the Norfolk and Western Railway here, he became a deputy sergeant in 1945. He had been on sick leave about six months, City Sergeant Lee F. Lawler said. "Donovan was very popular...careful and thorough in his work," Lawler added. Born in Norfolk in 1885, he would have been 69 soon. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. His parents were Thomas H. and Mrs. Johanna O'Meara Donovan. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Hope Donovan; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret M. Woolridge and Mrs. Catherine Johnakin; two sons, William F. Donovan, Jr. and James H. Donovan, both of Norfolk; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The body was removed to the Brennan Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Rosary services will be conducted at the residence tomorrow night at 8 o'clock. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. ******************************************************************************** William Francis Donovan — Funeral services for Mr. Donovan, deputy city sergeant of Norfolk, who died Tuesday, were conducted yesterday at 10 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Rev. Father Thomas Summers, assistant pastor of the church. Pallbearers were Frank G., Leo and Joseph Gillerlain, and Thomas, J. L., William, Robert and Garland Crump, all nephews of the deceased. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
