Mr. Donovan had been in failing health for some months and his death though not altogether unexpected is a great bereavement to his family and other kindred. He was in the 54th year of his age and was one of our best known and most highly respected citizens and for a number of years a most successful business man. He was a consistent member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, from which his funeral will be held at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning. ************ DONOVAN - At his residence, No. 560 East Main Street, Monday, July 10th, 1899, at 10:40 o'clock a.m., WILLIAM DONOVAN, in the 54th year of his age. The funeral will take place from St. Mary's Catholic Church WEDNESDAY MORNING at 9 o'clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend. Virginian Pilot July 11, 1899 *************************************************************************** The solemn service of the Requiem High Mass, as the last office of the Holy Church, was said yesterday morning at 9 o’clock before the congregation of devout and reverent friends, relatives and comrades of Mr. William Donovan, over his remains by Rev. Father Jackson, of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, in the beautiful cathedral interior of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, on Chapel street. The Emerald Beneficial Society, of which the deceased was a member, was present in a body and attended the body to its last resting place, in St. Mary's Cemetery, the following being pallbearers: Messrs. W. H. Hannan, Patrick Hart, J. J. Lawler, M. McKevitt, Michael Cashin, Patrick McGee, Peter Burns and Edward Mahoney.Mr. Donovan, it will be remembered, died Monday morning at his residence, No. 560 East Main street. Father Jackson was called upon in the absence of Fathers Doherty and Frioli from the city.
