DEATH OF A VENERABLE LADY
Yesterday morning, at the residence of her son, Mr. William Donovan, on East 
Main Street, the venerable and very much respected Mrs. Ellen Donovan passed 
away, in the 85th year of her age. Her illness was brief--little over a week's 
duration--and it was the hope of her family and a host of loving friends that 
she would recover, but it was God's will that she should pass gently away from 
the sphere of earthly life to enjoy the happiness of a heavenly home.
The life of the deceased was a truly Christian one. Devoted to the faith in 
which she was born, she discharged her religious duties with a constancy and 
devotion that was exemplary in the highest degree. Her heart was overflowing 
with charity, a charity that did not permit the right hand to know what the 
left was doing, and there are many needy ones in our city today who have been 
the recipients of her bounty, who will tearfully mourn the loss of a friend in 
the death of the good woman. God blessed her with more than the four score 
years and ten of life, years that were spent in the fulfillment of his commands.
To the afflicted members of the family THE VIRGINIAN extends its sincere 
sympathy. Truly have they sustained a great loss in her death. The funeral will 
take place this morning at 10 o'clock from St. Mary's Catholic Church.
