Donovan, 84, of Richmond and formerly of Norfolk, died Feb. 6, 2004. He is survived by his sisters, Catherine D. Johnakin, and Margaret Wooldridge; nine nieces and nephews; numerous great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; and his caretaker, Catherine Johnakin-Marzec. Mr. Donovan was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a first sergeant of artillery with the 29th Division and the 261st Field Artillery Battalion. He saw action at Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and The Ruhr. He was a retired captain of the Norfolk Fire Department with 35 years service; on the board of directors at the Norfolk Fire Department Federal Credit Union; a member of the Church of Redeemer Catholic Church; and a previous member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. A Christian wake was held Monday at 7 p.m. at Church of the Redeemer, 8725 Meadowbridge Road, Mechanicsville, Va., and where a Mass of Resurrection will be held today at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at 3:30 p.m. at St. Marys Cemetery, Norfolk.
