A native of Norfolk, he had lived in Tidewater most of his life. He was a graduate of Norfolk Division, College of William and Mary (now Old Dominion University) and St. Mary’s Male Academy. He also was a former semi-pro baseball player and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Bayside Lions Club and was past area chairman for Bayside Community League. He was a former secretary for Woodmen of the World. Other survivors include a son, William F. Donovan III, of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Margaret D. Wooldridge and Catherine D. Johnakin, and a brother, James H. Donovan, all of Norfolk. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Friday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Rev. Fr. John Grace. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Norfolk. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, has charge.
