Virginian-Pilot  February 28, 1882
Mr. John Doran, a well known furniture dealer of this city, died of consumption at 
the Hospital of St. Vincent de Paul on Saturday night last after a long and 
painful illness. Mr. Doran was, we believe, formerly from Philadelphia, but some 
seven or eight years ago, desiring to locate in the South for the benefit of his 
health, came to Norfolk with his family and during that time had succeeded in 
building up quite an extensive business. He was a man of retiring disposition, but 
of an industrious and worthy nature.
