Dorsey, 83, of the 1000 block of Cambridge Crescent, a retired captain in the Naval Reserve and a retired civil engineer, died April 27, 1993, in his home. Capt. Dorsey was a native of Baltimore and a member and communicant of Our Lady of Victory Chapel in Norfolk. He was a 1932 graduate of the University of Maryland with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association and the Reserve Officers Association. Capt. Dorsey was active in leadership of the local Boy Scout troops and was a member of the Colonial Order of the Crown. During World War II, he served in the Philippines. He retired in 1971 after 30 years of active and reserve duty combined. He was a commander of the Naval Reserve Seabee Battalion in Portsmouth for several years. From 1950 to 1971, he worked in professional civil engineering positions, most notably as chief engineer of the Public Works Center, Norfolk Naval Station, for several years. He retired from the Army Corps of Engineers as a senior manager of the nation's bomb shelter program. Survivors include his wife, Florence A. Dorsey; a daughter, Deborah C. Ward of Norfolk; two sons, Daniel R. Dorsey Jr. of California City, Calif. and James C. Dorsey of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Marie Brearey of Swansboro, N.C.; and a grandson, J. Michael Ward. A funeral Mass will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday in Our Lady Of Victory Chapel, Norfolk Naval Base, by the Rev. John L. Kaul. Entombment be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. A Christian wake service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
