V. Dougherty Rites Tomorrow Services To Be Held Here for Army Airman Killed in Alabama Funeral services for Private James Vincent Dougherty, aged 19, will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church tomorrow at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at the residence tonight at 9 o'clock. Dougherty was killed Friday in an airplane accident near Montgomery, Ala., where he was in training at the U.S. Army Air School, Gunter Field. He was the son of Mrs. Martha H. Dougherty, 637 Georgia Avenue, and the late Charles Dougherty, who served with the United States Marine Corps in World War No. 1. Besides his mother, he is survived by a sister, Helen Louise Dougherty, of Jacksonville; an uncle, James P. Sweeney, 604 Graydon Avenue and the following uncles and aunts; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Coppridge, 1019 Woodrow Avenue; Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Davenport, 719 East Twenty-eighth Street; Mrs. and Mrs. James I. North and Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Flowers, of Honolulu. ****************************************************************************** James V. Dougherty — Funeral services for Mr. Dougherty, who died Friday near Montgomery, Ala., were held yesterday morning at 10 o’clock at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Norfolk, with the Rev. E. P. Kilgalen, pastor, officiating. The Rev. J. F. Govaert was present in the sanctuary. At the conclusion of the mass, the Rev. Paul V. Keller spoke, the subject of his address being “Greater Love Than This No Man Hath, That a Man Lay Down His Life for a Friend.” During the service Miss Mildred Meath sang “Jesus, Jesus, Come To Me” and “Ave Maria,” with J. Harvey Stevens as organist. There was a large attendance and many floral offerings. The casket was covered with an American flag. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The pallbearers were Thomas R. Lowe, Eric Jens, Raymond Stephenson, Jack Gerloff, Percy Hill, Fred Sutton, Joe Matthias and Joseph Hanson.
