DOUGHERTY SUCCUMBS TO TYPHOID Popular Young Man Dies After Few Days' Illness Charles Russell Dougherty, aged 18 years, son of W.B. Dougherty and Mrs. Bessie Gibbs Dougherty, died yesterday afternoon at 3:35 o'clock after an illness of several days of typhoid fever at the family residence, 504 Berkley Avenue, after medical skill of this section had been exhausted in an effort to save his life. Young Dougherty was graduated from the Maury High School in June with distinction, taking a prominent part in the graduating exercises. He was one of the most popular young men of the city and had many friends, both among those of his own age and among the business men of the community. He was active in both church and Sunday school work, and especially interested in the Bible class of Memorial Methodist Church, of which he was a member. In the banking and building and loan business, with which his father is identified, young Dougherty was keenly interested and his future was particularly bright. In addition to his parents he is survived by his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Gibbs; two sisters, Misses Emma J. and Elizabeth Dougherty and two brothers, Hugh and Charles Dougherty; uncles, Charles B., John M. and Wallace E. Gibbs; aunts, Mrs. E.L. Cunningham of Newport News and Mrs. E.V. McGehee of Norfolk. The funeral arrangements will be announced later. ***************************************************************** DOUGHERTY - At the family residence, 504 Berkley Avenue, Friday afternoon, July 23, 1915, at 3:35 o'clock, CHARLES RUSSELL DOUGHERTY, son of W.B. and Mrs. Bessie Gibbs Dougherty, aged 18 years, 8 month, and 2 days.
