NORFOLK—Mrs. Mary Powell Dougherty of 4605 Larkin St., widow of Lawrence J. 
Dougherty Sr. and daughter of Hunter and Mrs. Rose McManus Powell, died in a 
hospital Friday at 6:05 p.m.
A native of Portsmouth, she was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and 
Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality of Christ the King.
She is survived by three daughters, Sister Andrea Dougherty of the Daughters of 
Charity of St. Vincent DePaul, Mrs. Celestin Ellington of Portsmouth, and Mrs. 
Rita D. Collamer of Norfolk; a son, Lawrence J. Dougherty Jr. of Virginia Beach; a 
brother, Virginus F. Powell of Norfolk; five grandchildren and four great-
grandchildren. The body was taken to H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic 
Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited Sunday 
at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
