Smith Monroe Douglass, aged 61, died last night at 6:35 o'clock at his home in Fentress after a short illness. A native of Norfolk, he had made his home in this section all his life. He had served as dock master of the Government locks at the Great Bridge Canal for the past five years and was well known. He was a member, deacon and treasurer of Centerville Baptist Church, and of Great Bridge Lodge 257, A.F. & A.M. He was a son of the late Sanford Mark and Mrs. Elizabeth Kinsey Douglass and husband of Mrs. Susan Bishop Douglass. Besides his wife he is survived by one brother, Thomas Paxton Douglass, of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted in Centerville Baptist Church tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park.
