Douglas and Linwood C. Whitley Horribly Burned As 11,000 Volt Carrier Short Circuits and Sets Fire To Clothing. BOTH DIE SOON AFTER REACHING HOSPITAL Necessary To Cut Off Power and Lights Before Victims Can Be Extricated; Coroner To Hold Inquest Next Week Alvin P. Douglas, 28, of 720 West Liberty Street, Berkley, and Linwood C. Whitley, 40, of 1266 West Fortieth Street, employees of the Virginia Railway & Power Company, were fatally burned yesterday afternoon at 1:30 by coming in contact with a high voltage electric wire at the Reeves Avenue power plant of the railway company. Both died at St. Vincent's Hospital within two hours after being taken there by fellow employees. Douglas was unmarried. He was the son of J.J. and Lucy Newby Douglas and was a native and lifelong resident of Berkley. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers, J.J., Jr., W.E. and Alson, and two sisters, Mrs. D.C. Short and Mrs. J.P. Hampshire. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the funeral home of E. Lee Cox. Interment will be in the family plot at Magnolia Cemetery. ***************************************************************************** Funeral services for Alvin Peledge Douglas, 28, who died suddenly Monday afternoon, were conducted this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock from the funeral home of E. Lee Cox, 124 East Berkley Avenue, by Rev. B.L. Rhodes, pastor of the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church. Burial was in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery.
