John Henry Douthit Sr., 80, chairman of the deacon board of Jerusalem 
Baptist Church for 37 years and Sunday School superintendent for 25, was 
given funeral rites at the church on Wednesday.

The Rev. Thomas N. Venable delivered the eulogy for the retired transfer 
company employee, who lived at 2738 Virginia Beach Boulevard. Burial was in 
Calvary Cemetery under direction of the Riddick Funeral Service.

Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Mary V. Douthit; three sons, Junius and Herman 
Douthit of Norfolk and John Henry Douthit Jr. of Washington; five daughters, 
Mrs. Elizabeth Rhodes and Mrs. Lillian Kyles of Washington, Mrs. Charlene 
Jeter of Richmond, and Mrs. Emily Reid and Mrs. Margaret Peace of Norfolk; a 
brother, William Douthit of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Fries of 
Winston-Salem and Mrs. Lena Glenn of Charlotte.
