Virginian Pilot July 8, 1900

DOWD - At the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Felix Oakes, No. 423 Princess 
Anne Avenue, Saturday, July 7th, 1900, at 10:45 o'clock a.m., Mrs. ANN DOWD, 
aged 72 years, widow of Owen Dowd and sister of John Lesner.
The funeral will take place from the above residence THIS (Sunday) AFTERNOON at 
4 o'clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend.

Mrs. Anne Dowd, a highly respected old lady, passed away yesterday morning at 
the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Felix Oakes, No. 423 Princess Anne Avenue. 
The deceased lady had only been in this country about eleven months, having 
resided in New York two and Norfolk nine months. Mrs. Dowd was a native of 
Ireland and leaves four sons and four daughters, all of whom reside in this 
country. The funeral services will be held from the residence this afternoon at 
4 o'clock.

The obsequies of Mrs. Ann Dowd, who passed away at the home of her brother-in-
law, Mr. Felix Oakes, No. 423 Princess Anne avenue, Saturday, were held from the 
residence at 4 o’clock Sunday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. 
Father O’Hara, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The remains were 
laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery. Following were the pall-bearers: Martin 
Cashin, John Coleman, Patrick Hart, D. F. Donovan, M. McKevitt and Thos. 
Fitzgibbons.
