Norfolk Virginian Pilot September 27, 1950

Stanley Randolph Downey, 68, husband of Mrs. Bessie Cherry Downey, and son of 
the late William T. and Mrs. Sarah Ellen Ayers Downey, died Monday at 11:15 p.m.
A storekeeper at the Norfolk Naval Base, he was a native of Rock Hill, Md. and 
had been a resident of Norfolk 42 years. He made his home at 519 River Avenue.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Wassel, of 
Norfolk; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Davis, of Philadelphia, Pa. and one brother, 
William Frank Downey, of Baltimore Md.
Funeral services will be held at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments tomorrow at 
11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Stanley Randolph Downey — Funeral services for Mr. Downey, who died Monday, were 
conducted at the chapel of the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments yesterday at 11 
a.m. by the Rev. Edward W. Johnston, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. 
Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were John O’Rourke, Charles 
Webber, Elmer Wheeler, James Wheeler, J. A. Atkinson and Ben Brenner.
