She was the daughter of the late Franklin D. Wilson, M.D., and Ruth Harrison Wilson. A graduate of Maury High School, the Norfolk Division of William and Mary, now ODU, and Richmond Polytechnical Institute, now VCU, Mrs. Downey then studied a year at the Parson School of Design in New York City. She returned to Norfolk to pursue a career working as an interior designer for many years at Cofer's Inc. She also shared her knowledge teaching courses in design at Norfolk Vocational School for several years. She was a member of the Hermitage Foundation, The Church of the Good Shepherd in Norfolk, and had been active in the work of the Episcopal Church Women, St. Mary's Soup Kitchen and Angel Flight. Mrs. Downey is survived by two daughters, Anne Downey Brockenbrough of Norfolk and Elizabeth Downey Drury of Jupiter, Fla.; six grandchildren, James Gill Brockenbrough III of Goochland County, Va., Anne Mercer Brockenbrough of Athens, Ga., Austin Cross Brockenbrough of Charlotte, N.C., William Mallory Brockenbrough of Athens, Ga., Crawford Reeves Drury and Parker Elizabeth Drury, both of Jupiter, Fla.; and a great-granddaughter, Mary Katherine Elizabeth Brockenbrough of Goochland County, Va. Her life will be celebrated in a memorial service today at Westminster Canterbury, 3100 Shore Drive, at 2 p.m. Following the service, family and friends will gather at a reception in the Bay View Room. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Angel Flight or The Church of the Good Shepherd's Outreach. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Virginia Beach Chapel, is handling arrangements.
