NORFOLK — Mrs. Elizabeth A. (Bessie C.) Downey, 73, widow of Stanley R. Downey and 
daughter of James Lewis and Mrs. Mary Wheeler Cherry, died Wednesday at 1:45 a.m. 
in a Norfolk hospital.
Mrs. Downey was a lifelong resident of Norfolk, lately at 3753 Wedgefield Ave.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sodality of the Blessed 
Virgin Mary.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Paul Wassel of Norfolk.
The Rosary will be recited in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments tonight at 7:30. A 
funeral service will be held in Sacred Heart Catholic Church Friday at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
