Downing, age 69 years, died at 10:30 o'clock last night at her home, 1331 West Raleigh Avenue, after an illness of several weeks' duration. She was a native of England and had been a well known resident of Norfolk for 35 years. Surviving her are four children and nine grandchildren. The children are: Miss Mary and Miss Katherine Downing and Cornelius and Fred Downing. The funeral services will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, of which Mrs. Downing was a consistent member, at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, conducted by Rev. Father Thomas E. Waters, pastor. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. ***************************************************************************** The funeral of Mrs. Sarah Downing took place yesterday morning at the Sacred Heart Catholic church, being conducted by Rev. T. E. Waters. There were many elaborate floral offerings. Mrs. S. A. Sutton sang “Face to Face.” The pallbearers were: M. Enright, Thomas Hanlon, Frederick Treadwell, K. J. McAllister, M. F. Moore and E.R. Beaman. Interment was in Saint Mary’s cemetery.
