She also was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 60, Widows of World War I, American War Mothers Chapter 3, the 8 and 40, Hampton Roads Salon, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Volunteer Workers of Kecoughtan Veterans Hospital and Daughters of Isabella. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert F. Barnum of Norfolk; a son, James H. Downing Sr. of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest H. Reckling of Norfolk and Mrs. F.D. Whitehurst of Baltimore; two brothers, Joseph Elliott of Mathews County and Frederick Elliott of Baltimore; and eight grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted in Holy Trinity Catholic Church Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The Rosary will be said in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments tonight at 7:30.
