Mrs. Adeline Britt Downing, wife of George W. Downing, died yesterday afternoon at 
her home, 134 Tenth street. She was in the seventy-fourth year of her age. Mrs. 
Downing was a native of Windsor, N. C., but had lived in Norfolk for more than 40 
years. She had many friends here and was highly esteemed.
Mrs. Downing, in addition to her husband, is survived by four daughters, Mrs. W. 
H. Gregory, Mrs. P. C. Dozier, Mrs. J. R. Liles of Norfolk, and Mrs. A. C. 
Morecock of Portsmouth, and one son, Edmund B. Downing of Norfolk. Funeral 
services will be held at the residence at 5 o’clock tomorrow afternoon. Burial 
will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
