The funeral of the late James Downing was held from the Sacred Heart Catholic 
church at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon and was attended by a large concourse, 
including the  Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Norfolk, Eagles, Knights of 
Columbus and the Spanish American war veterans, of which organizations the 
deceased was a member.
The service was conducted by Rev. Father R. A. Drake, who paid a beautiful tribute 
to the life and character of Mr. Downing. There was a wealth of lovely floral 
tributes.
While the casket was being borne from the church the choir rendered “Lead Kindly 
Light.” The interment was at St. Mary's cemetery. Following were the pallbearers:
B.L.E.—Wm. H. Wassum, Linwood Slade.
Eagles—James V. Trehy, James E. Henley.
Knights of Columbus—J. D. Duffy, M. J. Murphy.
Spanish War Veterans—Frank McLaughlin, Frank Lawler.
Citizens—F. E. Tweddell, Dennis Enwright. Lon Wheeler, Stephen O’Connor.
