The service was conducted by Rev. Father R. A. Drake, who paid a beautiful tribute to the life and character of Mr. Downing. There was a wealth of lovely floral tributes. While the casket was being borne from the church the choir rendered “Lead Kindly Light.” The interment was at St. Mary's cemetery. Following were the pallbearers: B.L.E.—Wm. H. Wassum, Linwood Slade. Eagles—James V. Trehy, James E. Henley. Knights of Columbus—J. D. Duffy, M. J. Murphy. Spanish War Veterans—Frank McLaughlin, Frank Lawler. Citizens—F. E. Tweddell, Dennis Enwright.
