VIRGINIA BEACH — Grayson Garland Downs, 81, of the 5200 block of Fairfield Blvd., 
a retired contractor, died Sept. 22, 1986, in Chesapeake.
Mr. Downs, a Mathews County native, was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He 
was the widower of Mary P. Downs.
Survivors include a daughter, Eileen D. Winder of Norfolk; five sons, Grayson G. 
Downs Jr., Thomas H. Downs and John M. Downs, all of Norfolk, William P. Downs of 
Virginia Beach and Robert J. Downs of Chesapeake; a sister, Myrtle Hatter of 
Virginia Beach; a brother, Harvey Downs of Currituck, N.C.; 16 grandchildren and 
11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Pius X Catholic Church by 
the Rev. Ron Ruth. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will be at 
Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and at 
the residence.
