Doyle, Esq., will be received with regret by the community in which he has lived so long, and was so much respected. For many years of his life Mr. Doyle was one of our most active and enterprising businessmen, and before the war bore a prominent part in the institution of the railroad system whose fruits are now to be seen in the position Norfolk occupies as the second cotton port of the country. Since the war Mr. Doyle has not mingled in active business pursuits, but the duties of everyday life have brought him into pleasant intercourse with his fellow citizens. His generous disposition and warm-hearted cordiality of manner, together with a great fund of information and humor, endeared him to all classes and ages of society, and no man's presence was more welcome to the many friends who recognized and appreciated the goodness of the man and the charity of his nature. He was a man of the finest sensibilities and warmest temperament, and we remember to have heard no more graceful or grateful tribute than that which he paid but a few months ago to the memory of Henry A. Wise. In his death we have lost a citizen who well and faithfully served his city and State, and who, in the relations of public and of private life, entitled himself to the respect and affection of all who knew him.
