Perkins F.H. August, 2022 George Drew Sr. of Norfolk, VA, age 75, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022, in the comfort of his home. He was born on September 14, 1946, son of the late James and Mamie (Parker) Drew. George is survived by his sons, George Jr., Damani and Eric, his daughters-in-law, Kelly and Gessica, his granddaughter, Kenzie, and grandson, Levi, his sisters, Olivia, Martha and Willie Mae, his brother, Melvin and several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and in-laws. George was predeceased by his brothers, Ray, William, Arthur, James Jr., and sisters, Alberta, Elizabeth, and Ethel. George was born in Hampton, VA ,and moved to Norfolk after marrying his sweetheart,Rayetta. He was a supporting husband and father to his three sons. He worked primarily as a welder for various shipyards within the Tidewater area. In the community, he volunteered his service to the Cub Scouts, BSA, chartered at First Baptist Church Bute Street in Norfolk, where he served as a member. He received awards/certificates for his work as a leader within scouting and received a Man of the Year award within the church in 2010. Everyone who knew George knew that he enjoyed working on and repairing cars for family and friends. He was a fan of sports - especially football and boxing. The Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions were his football teams growing up, but his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. He was also a fan of the family reunions, a time he was grateful to connect with his brothers and sisters and other family members. He also enjoyed fishing with his wife. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 10:00a.m at St. Marys Cemetery, 3000 Church Street, Norfolk, VA.
