He remained in Norfolk during the yellow fever and was active member of the Howard association during the epidemic and has continued as a member of said Association up to his death. He will be buried from the residence of Mr. Joseph P. Walton, 116 Bute Street, at 5 o’clock this (Thursday) evening. Norfolk Landmark June 24 1892 The funeral of Captain George R Drummond took place yesterday afternoon from the residence of Mr. Joseph P. Walton, on Bute Street, and was very largely attended. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. B. D. Tucker, of St. Paul’s P. E. Church. The casket was borne by eight colored men. The pall bearers were A. F. and A. M –H. L. Turner and S.P. Moore. Howard Association- John B. Whitehead and Major A. B. Cooke. Citizens-John Pugh, Captain J. W. Gilmer, B. F. Tebault and Hunter Woodis. The interment was in Elmwood Cemetery Norfolk Virginia June 23 1892 Death of Capt. George R. Drummond The announcement yesterday of afternoon that this well-known citizen had quietly passed away was received with deep regret and much pain by our people, and especially our older citizens. Mr. Drummond was born in Elizabeth City County, where the Soldiers’ Home now stands, the property, at that time belonging to Me. Drummond’s father, who was an extensive ship owner. He came to this city when a small boy and has remained her ever since, attending the schools of Messrs. John P. Scott and Mallory, in this city, and the Episcopal High School at Alexandria. During the terrible epidemic of yellow fever in 1855, he remained here and a an active member of the Howard Association did much to relieve the sufferings of our people He has continued his membership in the Association up to his death and the surviving members will attend his funeral. He leaves three nieces, Mrs. Sosthene Baillio, Mrs. Jas A. Walton and Mrs. Judge D. Tucker Brooke. The funeral will take place from the residence of Mr. Joseph A. Walton, 116 Bute Street, at 5 p.m., Thursday. He was 61 years old.
