V. Dudley Dies Apparently of Heart Trouble While Gas Escapes From Stove Walter Virginius Dudley died very suddenly yesterday morning at his home, 1026 Highland Avenue. The cause of Mr. Dudley's death is given as heart trouble, but it is not known to what extent this trouble was influenced by gas escaping from a small stove that the stricken man had just turned on. He had gone into a small room on the rear of his house to light a gas stove with which to cook some breakfast. He was found later by friends lying on the floor and he was taken up and carried outside on the porch. He died just after being carried out. How long he was in the room while the gas was escaping is not known, but it was presumably not very long. The door of the room was open, providing an outlet for the gas and it is assumed that Mr. Dudley was stricken immediately after turning on the jet. For 19 years Mr. Dudley was employed on the street railway here as a motorman, having left that position about six months ago. He is survived by his father, E.W. Dudley of Portsmouth; a son, George G. Dudley of Norfolk; a daughter, Mrs. Lena M. Reese of Norfolk; a brother, E.W. Dudley Jr., of Norfolk County and a sister, Mrs. James Cherry of Portsmouth. Mr. Dudley was a member of Industry Council No. 1, Order Fraternal Americans. The body was taken to the home of his son, 1014 Highland Avenue. Funeral services will be held from this residence at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon and will be conducted by Rev. Warren H. Denison, pastor of Memorial Christian Temple. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
