Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, June 3, 2003 
NORFOLK - Earl Duke Sr., 88, of the 1000 block of Fauquier St., departed this
life on May 30, 2003. He was a native of Virginia Beach, Seatack and was a
longshoreman for more than 30 years with ILA Local 1248 until his retirement. He
was a local entrepreneur and businessman who developed and operated several
businesses in the Tidewater area. He was a member of Faith Pentecostal Church
where his wife, Prophetess Lillian Duke is pastor.

He was predeceased by his son, Earl Duke Jr. and his brother, Horace Duke.
Survivors include his loving wife, Prophetess Lillian E. Duke of Norfolk; two
daughters, Earline Duke Edmonds of Virginia Beach and Shirley D. Battle and
husband Cato of Portsmouth; two sons, Pastor Marvin L. Duke and wife Beulah of
Chesapeake and Delbert R. Duke of Norfolk; three sisters, Lorraine D. Kennedy,
Marjorie D. Johnson and husband Cornelius and Mary D. Foxworth, all of Brooklyn,
N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.

A funeral will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at Chesapeake Christian Center,
where his son, Marvin L. Duke, is pastor. Interment will follow at Calvary
Cemetery . Viewing will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Pretlow and
Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
