Norfolk Virginian January 10, 1889
A white woman, Named Mary Louise Dulin, a denizen of a negro bagnio, at No. 65 
Avon street, kept by a woman named Sue Pitt, died yesterday morning from the 
effects of a dose of laudanum taken Tuesday afternoon with suicidal intent. The 
woman has been despondent of late and, it is thought, committed the deed to put an 
end to her life of shame. Dr. Newton, City Coroner, did not hold an inquest, as 
one was not deemed necessary, and the body was turned over to the friends of the 
deceased for burial.
