He died almost instantly. On the same platform with Durant was S.B. Batt, chief linesman of the Southern States Telephone Company, by whom both men were employed. Durant was on one end of the platform and Batt on the other. They were testing a cable. Batt was unhurt. Durant's body was taken to police headquarters in the patrol wagon and later sent to Oliver's undertaking establishment. Durant was married and resided at 125 and 1/2 North Reservoir avenue, Brambleton. He was 32 years old and had been in the employ of the Southern States Telephone Company for five years. Durand will take place from the residence of his father-in-law, Francis Hendren, on Maple avenue this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Mr. Durand fell from a telephone pole Tuesday afternoon. He was the husband of Miss Mattie Hendren of Berkley ward.
