Duval, one of Norfolk's oldest and most highly esteemed citizens, died last evening at 8:20 o'clock at his cottage at Willoughby Bay, after an illness of four months, aged 86 years. He was a native of Baltimore but had resided in Norfolk for about half a century, having been in business on Water street for the past forty-five years. He was the founder of the Norfolk Iron Works, of which he and J. A. Ridgwell were the proprietors, Mr. Duval continuing in business up to the time of his death, though not as actively engaged latterly as formerly. He was one of the best-known men in his line of business in the South and steamboat men, far and wide, have for years taken his name as a synonym of efficient work and sterling integrity. He was widely known in the city and had many friends throughout Tidewater Virginia. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Clarke, of this city, and a granddaughter, Mrs. J. A. Ridgwell, also of Norfolk. He is also survived by a brother, Benjamin Duval, of Baltimore. The funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon at his cottage at Willoughby and the interment will be in this city.
