He was born in Norfolk and was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co. for 43 years and was raised in Willoughby. He was a past member of the Father Kealy Knights of Columbus; was an avid Redskins fan; and was a staff sargeant in the U.S. Marines, having served in Korea. He is survived by his wife, Kay Earnest; three daughters, Mary Kay Earnest McFadden; Susan Earnest Harris, Patti Earnest Rickers, all of Norfolk; four sons, Michael John Earnest, Paul Joseph Earnest, Mark David Earnest and Frank Marshall Earnest III, all of Norfolk; one sister, Pat Earnest Alexander of Norfolk; one brother, Richard M. Earnest of Norfolk; and 10 grandchildren. A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and will be conducted by Father Lou Ruoff. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. A prayer service will be held today from 7 to 7:30 p.m. in the church. The family will remain to receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
