J. East, 82, Dies at Home Was One of Founders of Farmers Manufacturing Company Thomas Jefferson East, 92, son of the late John Franklin and Mrs. Margaret Byrd Bell East, a lifelong resident of this section, died at the residence, 1-A East Manor Apartments, 911 Brandon avenue, last night at 6:10 o'clock. Mr. East was one of the founders of the Farmers Manufacturing Company, of which organization he was president, retiring from active service in 1924. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. George William Land, of Richmond and Mrs. John H. Cornell, of Washington, D.C.; three sons, Thomas O'Farrell East and William Whitney East, both of Norfolk and Cecil Barret Payne East, of the University of Virginia and five grandchildren, Miss Frances Land, of Richmond; Miss Mary Margaret East, of Norfolk; Miss Harriett Macon East, of the University of Virginia; Thomas Jefferson East, Jr., U.S. Army and Ensign John H. Cornell, Jr., USCGR. The body will be taken from the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to the First Christian Church(Disciples), of which Mr. East was a member, for funeral services Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. C.M. Gordan, D.D., the pastor, and the Rev W.H.T. Squires, D.D., officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
