Ellington, one of Berkley's oldest and most highly esteemed citizens, died yesterday at the residence of his son, Mr. Alex. Ellington, on D Street. The deceased was born in Campbell County, near Lynchburg, in the year 1814, but he has been a resident of this section about thirty years. He served gallantly in the Confederate service during the War Between the States, being a member of an artillery company in Mahone's Brigade and at the time of his death was a member of Niemeyer-Shaw Camp, Confederate Veterans. He leaves seven children - Messrs. Charles L., William A. and Alexander Ellington and Mrs. Thomas Glemming, of Berkley; Mrs. J.A. MccCoy, of Norfolk and Mrs. William Aiken, of Manchester, Va. The funeral services will be conducted from Memorial M.E. Church at 3 o'clock this afternoon, of which he was a consistent member. The interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend, but requested to omit flowers. ******************************************************************* MR. ELLINGTON DEAD Mr. Phineas Alexander Ellington, a well-known and highly respected citizen, died yesterday morning at 9 o'clock at the residence of his son, Mr. P.A. Ellington, on South Lee street. The deceased was in his 88th year, and was for a great many years employed with the Norfolk and Western Railroad Company. The funeral will be conducted from the Memorial M.E. church this afternoon at 3 o'clock and the interment will be in Magnolia cemetery. He was a member of Niemeyer-Shaw Camp, Confederate Veterans, and it is a request of Commander E.L Cox that all the veterans assemble at Truitt's Hall at 1:30 o'clock to attend the funeral in a body. Rev. W.A. Christian will officiate.
