Elliott, an account of whose life and death has appeared in these columns, arrived here over the Norfolk and Western Railroad from the Healing Springs, Bath county, Va., at 11:35 a.m. yesterday, and were met at the depot by a committee from the Board of Trade and Business Men's Association and Norfolk and Portsmouth Cotton Exchange, and were conveyed to St. Paul's Episcopal church, where the funeral was held at 12:30 o'clock p.m. The services were conducted by the rector, Rev. Dr. B. D. Tucker, assisted by Rev. Robert Gatewood. The casket, which was borne by eight colored men, was covered with the choicest flowers. In addition to the committees from the Board of Trade and Business Men's Association and the Norfolk and Portsmouth Cotton Exchange, the obsequies were attended by Pickett-Buchanan Camp, Confederate Veterans, of which the deceased was an honored member. The remains were laid to rest in Elmwood cemetery. Following were the honorary pallbearers: Colonel L. D. Starke, Captain Adam Tredwell, Messrs. R. A. Dobie, George L. Arps, C. W. Grandy, Caldwell Hardy, R. S. Cohn, G. M. Serpell, B. P. Loyall, W. T. Brooke, James Y. Leigh, W. W. Tunis, A. C. Freeman, W. W. Gwathmey, Bascom Sykes, Walter F. Irvine, T. B. Jackson, Harry Walters of Baltimore and Alexander Hamilton of Petersburg.
