NORFOLK - Gladys M. Elliott, a member of Queen Street Baptist Church, departed
Jan. 13, 2011. She was born Dec. 12, 1923 to the late Lovie Cherry Davenport and
Charlie S. Cherry of Windsor, N.C.

Gladys, known as "Marie" by late husband, Frank S. "Lightning" Elliott Sr. were
married 61 years. Gladys worked as a CNA for several years at St. Mary's Infant
Home.

She is survived by four daughters, Gladys M. Jones, Ann L. Brown (Alec), Elnora
Forrest, Una C. Elliott of Atlanta; four sons, Charles Cherry, Frank S. Elliott
Jr. (Barbara), Robert I. Elliott, Ryan O. Elliott (Keisha); a devoted
sister-in-law, Leah E. Baker; two devoted grandchildren, Sabrina Forrest and
Derrick Edwards (Tenisha); 23 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; five
great- great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Queen Street Baptist Church, 413
E. Brambleton Ave. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. The family
will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Metropolitan Funeral Service,
Granby St. Chapel. Family and friends will assemble at 973 Scott St. Norfolk one
hour prior to service for procession to the church. Condolences may be offered
