Virginian-Pilot September 20, 1962
NORFOLK — Robert L. Ellis Sr., 59, of 431 Maryland Ave., co-owner of Coastal 
Machinery Co., died Wednesday at 2 a.m. in a Norfolk hospital. Born in Amherst, he 
was a son of the late John Eubanks and Mrs. Mary Loving Ellis. He was a member of 
the Pythian Lodge.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. May C. Ellis; two sons, Robert L. Ellis Jr. and John 
C. Ellis of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lewis Ellis Gosney of Danville and 
Mrs. Elizabeth Ellis Gilfoyle of Norfolk; and five grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Friday at 2 p.m. 
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
