Enright, aged 32, occupant of the apartment, trapped other tenants of the building in their rooms behind warped doors and spread consternation throughout that usually quiet residential section. Miss Enright was last seen alive by Mrs. Katherine Flanrey, who occupies Apartment 3 on the first floor of the building. Mrs. Flanrey said she was in Miss Enright's apartment about 12:30 and invited her to dinner. At 1:45, she said, she sent Miss Peed to Miss Enright's apartment to notify her that dinner was ready. At the moment Miss Peed pushed the button of the electric bell, the explosion occurred. Police report in part stated "Miss Enright was killed or died from gas before an explosion of gas when Miss Peed rang bell causing spark that ignited gas in kitchen of her apartment" Miss Enright was employed as telephone operator at the Fairfax hotel and had been living in the Leroy Apartments for about two months. She has been occupying the apartment in which the explosion occurred for only about two weeks, however. Miss Enright was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Kelly Enright. She was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. A.W. Hershel, of Brooklyn and Mrs. J.W. Pacini, of Norfolk; and eight brothers, M.J. Enright, of Brooklyn; John, D.A., J.B., J.F., Ernest and Emmett Enright, of Norfolk and P.V. Enright, of Baltimore. The body was removed to the funeral home of H.D. Oliver at 610-12 East Freemason Street, pending funeral arrangements.
