Epps of the 900 block of Hayes St. died Oct. 7, 2000, at his residence. Mr. Epps was born in Blackstone, Va., and retired as a cook/chef. He was featured in 1990 in an article in The Virginian-Pilot, ``Loners No More: Retiree, Child Hit It Off, Fast Friends Meet Each Other's Needs.'' He is survived by his adopted daughter, Jean McCloskey; an adopted granddaughter, Dana Long; and a host of close relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hale Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery .
