It is now the flowers are blooming, 
And the stars look down at night,
Here is where we laid our love one,
In Virginia from mortal right.

Over his grave the birds are singing,
In the sunlight bright and fair;
But they cannot bring our love one
Back from there.

But in that day we shall meet him,
In the mansion bright and fair;
And with other Holy Angels we will
Sing Hosanna forever there.

ESKRIDGE -- Mr. John M. Eskridge, one of the elders of the United House of 
Prayer of Norfolk, VA, and one that made his own flowers every day life 
Christianity, made the hundred, not the 99 in every thing he started. He was 
a first-class brickmason and a cement finisher, read blue prints and a 
mathematician, also a student of Booker T. Washington High School. He 
deceased this life June 28th, 1943 age 22, in the home of his grandmother, 
Mrs. Mattie Wagner on Fenchurch street. From there, Mr. Hale took charge of 
the body, and on the 4th day of July his funeral was preached by Rev. Arthur 
Read, which was life to the living. He left a mother, father, two sisters, 
one brother ad some cousins and a score of friends to weep for him. Rev. 
Mrs. Lainars arranged a beautiful program for the occasion, which took place 
before the funeral and she spoke wonderfully of the life of the deceased. 
The Rev. Mr. Lainars, also the different prayer bands he belonged to, had 
the opportunity in Hale’s home for expressions and to see the last which was 
wonderful. After that the body was grievously laid in Calvary Cemetery.
