VIRGINIA BEACH - Mrs. Mattie Hyslop Etheredge, 98, the widow of Mordaunt 
Etheredge and daughter of Robert A. and Mrs. Alice Halstead Hyslop, died in a 
Norfolk hospital Wednesday at 1 a.m.
A native of Norfolk County, she was a lifelong resident of the Norfolk and 
Virginia Beach area. She was a member of the Congregational Christian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Richard M. Cooke, and a son, Robert H. 
Etheredge, both of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren; seven great-
grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
The body will be taken from Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, to 
Elmwood Cemetery for a funeral service today at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Sidney B. 
Sanders of Eastern Shore Episcopal Chapel.
