NORFOLK - William Boswood Etheridge, who was pistol-whipped last month during a 
robbery at Pembroke Towers, died Monday at Norfolk General Hospital.
Robbery Sgt. C. M. Todd said an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause 
of death.
Police arrested Henry Lee Goins, 20, shortly after the stickup, and he is in 
jail, charged with robbery.
According to Todd, Etheridge, 59, was working as night clerk at the apartment 
building in the 600 block of Pembroke Avenue when he was robbed about 4 a.m., 
Dec. 11.
A man walked in and asked the price of a room. Told he was not in a hotel but an 
apartment building, the man pulled a pistol and hit Etheridge in the face, Todd 
said.
Etheridge pulled a pistol and attempted to shoot, but the gun misfired.
The man took Etheridge's wallet and gun before fleeing.
Todd said Etheridge was admitted to the hospital "a few days" after the robbery.
A Norfolk native, Etheridge lived in the 200 block of Delaware Avenue and was 
retired from Civil Service employment
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Gornto Etheridge.
He was on the Board of Directors for Sevamp, Senior Services.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Paul B. 
Waltington Jr. in Elmwood Cemetery. Smith & Williams Funeral Home has charge.

Additional Comments:
There is a discrepancy between the date of death recorded on his death certificate 
(11th) and that reported in his obituary (12th).
