T. Owens on Upper Church Street, by which Mrs. Sarah Eustis, an estimable old lady seventy six years of age, lost her life. This lady was in Mrs. Owen’s (her grand-daughter) room standing near a grate, when her clothing took fire, which instantly enveloped her in flames. She screamed loudly and ran through several apartments of the house, attracting attention of Mr. A. J. Wilkins (Mrs. Owens’ brother-in-law) who happened to be there at the time. Mr. Wilkins hastened to the relief of the old lady and found her prostrate upon the floor, perfectly helpless. He quickly took some blankets from the bed and wrapped them around her person to extinguish the flames, but found it necessary to tear off her clothing. After he had put out the fire he perceived that she had been shockingly burned from head to foot and immediately sent for Dr. Nash, who came promptly and did all in his power to save her life but alas! in vain. She suffered great agony till six o’clock p.m. when death relieved her. Her funeral will take place at the Methodist Protestant Church, Church Street, this afternoon at three o’clock. See notice elsewhere. ************************************* Departed this life Saturday evening at 6 o’clock, Mrs. Sarah Eustis in the 76th year of her age, after a short but painful illness of a few hours, which she bore with Christian fortitude and without a murmur, trusting alone in that God, who doeth all things well.
