Evans, the oldest lady in Suffolk, is dead. Death came peacefully at 3 o'clock this morning, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J.M. Briggs, 12 Pinner street. Mrs. Evans had been in feeble health for some time, there being a general failing of the vital organs. Death was precipitated by indigestion. The funeral will take place at 9:30 o'clock Monday from the Presbyterian Church, of which the deceased was a consistent member. Rev. H.C. Moore, the former pastor, will conduct the services. The remains will be taken to Norfolk for interment. Mrs. Evans was eighty-five years of age. She leaves two children - Mrs. Benjamin Tebault, of Norfolk and Mrs. Jane M. Briggs, relict of the late Dr. George Griggs, Suffolk. Among her grandchildren are Misses Jennie B. and Ray Briggs, of Suffolk and Evans and George Briggs, of Norfolk. ************************************************************** A former resident of Norfolk, Mrs. Jane M. Evans, died in Suffolk on the 8th instant at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jennie M. Briggs, in her 88th year. She was the widow of the late Captain Richard Evans, formerly of the United States marine service. For many years she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in this city. The remains were interred in Elmwood Cemetery. The New Daily Pilot Tuesday January 12, 1897 ******************************************************************* The late Mrs. Jane B. Evans' funeral took place at 9:30 this morning from the Presbyterian Church. The exercises were conducted by Rev. H. C. Moore, assisted by Rev. William Chinn. The remains, accompanied by friends and relatives, were taken on the cannon ball train to Norfolk, where the interment took place.
