Norfolk Virginian Pilot March 15, 1948

Mrs. Mary Ellen McCarthy Evans, 55, wife of George O'Connor Evans and daughter 
of the late Michael and Mrs. Ellen Dunn McCarthy, a lifelong resident of this 
section, died at her residence, 1152 Sussex Place, Larchmont, yesterday at 6:15 
a.m.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons,, George O. Evans, all of 
Norfolk; two daughters, Mrs. P.B. Humphrey, of Arlington and Mrs. Joseph Doran, 
of Norfolk; five grandchildren; one brother, Michael Joseph McCarthy, Jr., of 
Norfolk and two sisters, Mrs. W.D. Pritchard, of Miami, Fla. and Mrs. Ernest 
Gaskins of Silver Springs, Md.
The body will be taken from the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Blessed 
Sacrament Catholic Church, of which Mrs. Evans was a member for services 
Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary services will 
be held at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments tomorrow at 8 p.m.

Mrs. Mary Ellen McCarthy Evans — Funeral services for Mrs. Evans, wife of George 
O. Evans, who died Sunday, were conducted yesterday at 10 a.m. at Blessed 
Sacrament Catholic Church by the Rev. B. J. McKenna. The Rev. Edward W. Johnston 
and the Rev. Joseph V. Brennan were present in the sanctuary. Burial was in St. 
Mary’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were William B. Rudolph, Prescott Doran, Luther R. 
Taylor, John W. Saunders, Joseph Matacio, William H. Thompson and T. P. Taylor.
