Clement Payne Evans, aged 48, veteran member of the Virginia Pilot Association, died at 7:37 o'clock yesterday morning at a local hospital. He had been ill for nearly a year. The son of the late Frank P. and Mrs. Mary Ellen Hickey Evans, Captain Evans was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ocean View. A pilot in the association for 28 years, Captain Evans was still on the active list at the time of his death, though he had been unable to work since last July on account of his illness. He made his home at 6104 Granby Street. Captain Evans was held in high regard by his fellow pilots and a tribute was paid by Capt. M.B. Edmunds, president of the association, last night. Outstanding Member "Captain Evans was an outstanding member of our association and highly respected by all who knew him," Captain Edmunds said. "He was a man of sterling character and charitable impulses and we deeply regret his loss." Captain Evans was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Regina Pompel Evans; three sisters, Mrs. John S. Drew and Mrs. Harry T. White, of Norfolk and Mrs. John M. Love, of Alexandria, La. and two nephews, John D. Drew, of Norfolk and Harry Payne White, of Richmond. The body will be taken from the residence to Holy Trinity Church for funeral services at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at the residence at 8 o'clock tonight. **************************************************************************** Capt. Clement Payne Evans — Funeral services for Captain Evans, who died Saturday at a local hospital, were held at 10 o’clock yesterday morning at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ocean View, with the Rev. R. B. Kealey, pastor, officiating. The Rev. E. P. Kilgalen and the Rev. Francis Bradican were present in the sanctuary. In his address at the conclusion of the mass, Father Kealey spoke in praise of the Christian life and character of Captain Evans. During the service Miss Mildred Meath sang “Vent Jesu,” "Jesus Keep Me Close to Thee,” and "Lead, Kindly Light,” with Miss Helen Gunn as organist. There was a very large attendance. The casket was covered with a pall of Easter lilies, red roses, baby’s breath and fern. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Harry P. Moore, W. L. Prieur, Sr., William J.
