He was the husband of Mrs. Pearl V. Evans. He was a retired iron worker and a member of Iron Workers Union, Local 379, Norfolk. He was an Army veteran of World War I; an honorary member of Ocean View Post 3160, Veterans of Foreign Wars; a member of Ocean View Democratic Club; and a Baptist. Other survivors include two sons, L. W. Evans Jr. of Richmond and Gene E. Evans of Chesapeake; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Simms of Norfolk; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by the Rev. Billy Morris, pastor of Hyde Park Freewill Baptist Church, Norfolk. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk.
