Norfolk Virginian April 15, 1873
DEATH OF CAPTAIN RICHARD EVANS — We are pained to announce today the death of 
Captain Richard Evans, which occurred Sunday. He was a high-minded gentleman, 
respected and esteemed for his worth by all with whom he was thrown in contact. 
Previous to the war, he was for many years connected with the Revenue Service of 
the United States, but when Virginia called on her sons, with the dignity of his 
manhood, he threw aside office and position and tendered his mother State his 
services. Full ripe in years, he has passed away, leaving behind him a stainless 
reputation and an honored name, mourned by a large circle of friends, who deeply 
sympathize with his bereaved family. His funeral will take place this afternoon at 
4 1/2 o'clock, from his late residence, No. 65 Boush street.
