"Grandma Lucy," as she was known, was born Dec. 12, 1936, to the late Florence Woodhouse and Walter Branch in Elizabeth City, N.C. She attended Providence High School in Chesapeake and was a member of Mount Herman, Norfolk and the FOTE (Friends of the Elderly) program. Lucy was predeceased by her husband, Cornelius Evans Sr.; her great-aunt who raised her, Martha Branch; three daughters, Bernadette Evans, Doreatha Evans and Marcia Lewis; a son, Walter Evans Sr.; five grandchildren, Lil James Dean, LaVar Evans, Gleason Evans, Emmanuel Evans and Leon Evans. She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Janice L. Dean (James), Sonja Evans, Gloria L. Evans and Lenora Cross, all of Norfolk; a goddaughter, Matilda Johnson of Brunswick, Ga.; three sons, Timothy Evans (Valerie Gardner), Gregory Evans and Cornelius Evans Jr. (Sharon); two sisters, Carolyn Morris and Sybil Mitchell; former daughter-in- law, Gay Brickhouse; 24 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; three special friends, Cecil Watson, Bessie Harris and Andrew Alexander; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 504 Ashlawn Drive No. 4 one hour prior to the service for the procession to the chapel. A viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
