Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Saturday, June 17, 2000 
NORFOLK - On Monday, June 12, 2000, the Lord called home to heaven our sister,
aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend
- Lucille M. Evans of the 700 block of Marshall Ave.

She was known best to many as ``Mother Evans,'' but to her family as ``Big
Lucille.'' She was born to the union of Isaac and Mary Etta Spruill on Feb. 28,
1909, in Bertie County, N.C. She was the widow of Willie Oliver Evans and was
also predeceased by her son, Joe Willie Evans, and her daughter, Elizabeth
Harrell. She was a dedicated and gracious member of her church, Smyrna Church of
Christ Holy Disciples for about 50 years and was the Mother of the Church for
about 40 years.

She leaves to mourn her homegoing her brother, Oliver Lee Riddick of Hertford,
N.C.; two daughters, Mary Louise Burt of Stoughton, Mass., and Dorothy Hinton of
Norfolk; two sons, Robert Evans of Norfolk and Roy Evans of Hertford; and many,
many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren
along with a great host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday at Smyrna Church of Christ Holy
Disciples by Elder Randy Brown. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . A wake
service will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Graves Funeral Home. Family and
friends will assemble at 2414 Bolton St.
